It's an underground illusion.....

Why did there have to be some sort of terror scare three days before I'm meant to get a flight from Gatwick? So so worried about Monday, I'm already cutting things fine leaving an hour to get from the airport to Marseille train station, but if the flight is delayed I'll be stranded in Marseille overnight with nowhere to sleep. This is terrifying. Travelling on my own in a foreign country is scary enough. I've done it before, but not to Marseille. Not at night.

Beth just sent me the following text message: 'Just to check: we're going swimming at the crack of dawn tomorrow. We must be mad! See you at 8 am."

We actually are mad. This swimming and spending every moment together is completely off the rail (also bloody marvellous). Beth's mother gave me tomatoes, an aubergine, a courgette, some brocolli, a squash and an onion today, all homegrown on the allotment. I feel lucky.

Am meant to be doing about twelve different things this weekend. And then going on holiday. Watch me try.

The terror threat (whether you're cynical about an 'unimaginable loss of human life' being 'foiled' or not) is probably smaller today with all the searches and security than it was yesterday. And Marseille is very nice. And there's loads of trains if you miss yours. Which would be trademark Gwen.

Well at least you're fluent in French, which makes spending a night alone in a city you don't know around people who you can't trust that little bit easier...I guess...

You should get the train in future - margainly better for the environment.

The last scheduled train is at five past eleven from Marseille train station, and my flight gets in at five past ten. The shuttle bus from the airport to the station takes 25 minutes and comes every 20.

And I have to figure out where these all run from, buy tickets and collect luggage...

The 'terror threat' doesn't sound particularly genuine. It's obvious the government are looking for some media brownie points because of the Middle East. I'm more concerned about the threat to my travel arrangements...

Ain't that the truth - selfishness is underrated.

its not that selfishness is underrated, its that T.W.A.T. (The war against terror) is OVERrated.
